WHAT WE DO
SUSTAINABLE RECREATION AND ECOSYSTEM
MANAGEMENT PROGRAM
The Sustainable Recreation and Ecosystem Management Program (SREMP) is a vision to unite the jurisdictions of the Eastern Sierra to implement coordinated projects integrating responsible ecosystem management, natural resource conservation, sustainable outdoor recreation, and economic development using the best available science and planning processes to strengthen all communities in the Eastern Sierra in their pursuits of more resilient and sustainable communities.
EASTERN SIERRA
PACE AND SCALE ACCELERATOR
The Eastern Sierra Pace and Scale Accelerator Program aims to increase local capacity for environmental planning in the Eastern Sierra by investing in dedicated professionals to build a locally based workforce in the area of environmental planning.
TOWN-TO-TRAILS PLAN
The Trails Plan will identify existing trails and other soft surface infrastructure networks for the development of a trail network paralleling the Pacific Crest Trail from Lone Pine to Markleeville and beyond. The Trails Plan will also identify environmental planning needs and opportunities for on-the-ground implementation projects.
BUTTERMILK INFRASTRUCTURE AND RECREATION INITIATIVE
The Buttermilk Project Area has emerged as an iconic destination in the Eastern Sierra Region and has seen increasing numbers of visitors in recent years, straining existing recreation infrastructure while presenting opportunities to improve the visitor experience and conserve natural resource assets through engaged recreation management. The Buttermilk Infrastructure and Recreation Planning Initiative (BIRPI) is a two-phase Project to address current resource impacts and plan for sustainable recreation in the Buttermilk area.
COMMUNITY ECONOMIC RESILIENCE FUND
The Community Economic Resilience Fund (CERF) is a statewide program that was created to promote a sustainable and equitable recovery from the economic distress of COVID-19 by supporting new plans and strategies to diversify local economies and develop sustainable industries that create high-quality, broadly accessible jobs for all Californians.
INYO-MONO BROADBAND CONSORTIUM
The Inyo Mono Broadband Constorium (IMBC) was established to facilitate expansion and adoption of broadband technology in the Eastern Sierra region. The Eastern Sierra Council of Governments (ESCOG) was awarded a California Advanced Services Fund Grant for the IMBC. The IMBC will facilitate the deployment of broadband services in Inyo and Mono counties by assisting with project development, grant applications, and projects related to state broadband programs.
EASTERN SIERRA SUSTAINABLE
RECREATION PARTNERSHIP
The Eastern Sierra Sustainable Recreation Partnership (ESSRP) is a unique "public/public" partnership formed to encourage collaboration among local Eastern Sierra governments, state agencies, federal agencies, other public entities and sovereign tribes.
CITIZEN’S WILDFIRE EDUCATION ACADEMY
The Citizen's Wildfire Education Academy ( Academy) is seven-part series of free virtual sessions organized by the Eastern Sierra Council of Governments (ESCOG) educating the public on wildfires, and how to prepare for it. The Academy is aimed at reducing the anxiety about wildfire, and addressing and responding to the multitude of questions that residents and visitors have about the topic.
